Rookie Lifeguard
The scheme is developed by the RLSS UK in conjunction with the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) and the National Plan for Teaching Swimming. The Rookie skills will prepare youngsters to take better care of themselves, family and friends, and give them the information they need to promote water safety in their day to day activities.

rookie logoThe awards contain survival, rescue and sports skills as well as life support and water safety elements. Rookie Lifeguard fulfils all of the Key Stage 2 water safety elements of the National Curriculum.

There are 3 stages; Bronze, Silver and Gold with each stage subdivided into 3 levels. There are also speciality bolt-on awards, and for the more advanced Rookie there is an opportunity to achieve the Rookie Master Lifeguard Award.

The aim of the scheme is to:rookies training in pool

  • Teach lifesaving skills
  • Increase swimming competence
  • Develop survival skills in water
  • Develop competence, initiative and judgement
  • Develop team work and leadership and most importantly BE FUN!

If you wish to take part in our Rookie sessions then just come along to our pool sessions which run most Sundays at Raich Carter Sports Centre at 5.00pm.
